VCAL & COMMUNITY PROJECTS

The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) is a practical option for students in Years 11 and 12. It is designed to prepare students for further education, training or employment by providing them with work-related experience, literacy and numeracy skills and an opportunity to develop personal skills.

Students engage in a range of projects that link to their VCAL studies. As a flexible learning setting we have been able to make strong community partnerships that build real life skill-sets in our students.

Major Project:

  • Partner with Ballarat Community Health Centre to plan, organise and implement all aspects of a pop up café at the Lucas site.

  • Through the Advance funding YPC Lucas Café Project students have been able to build real life employability skills using industry standard equipment including expresso machine and turbofan ovens.

  • Students completed study in VCAL and VET Certificates through the Highlands Llen and local RTO Ballarat Group Training.

Other Projects that have been supported by Advance include:

  • Barista short course training at William Angliss Institute

  • Cooking exchange program with Multicultural women’s group at Ballarat Community Health Centre

Advance funding has enabled students to research and organise a boutique camping experience for themselves and their babies.

The project included:

  • Researching suitable affordable accommodation for the group including children.

  • Researching the region and finding suitable activities to do whilst in Queenscliff

  • Researching and planning meals for the group.

  • Booking excursions and activities for the camp.

  • Identifying needs and then shopping for the camping experience

  • Developing a camp information handout including an itinerary & what to pack list

  • Developing a risk management plan for the camp with special attention to child safety precautions.
